Being a Dad

One of the things my little boy likes to do every now and then is to watch teletubbies. Personally, I hate the teletubbies... there are so many other things I would rather be doing than watching teletubbies. But sometimes I sit down and I watch teletubbies. Why? B/c Caleb likes to watch teletubbies. This what it means to be a Dad... sometimes you have to sacrifice. Sure there are plenty of things that I enjoy and that I'd rather be doing, but I sacrifice what I want for time with Caleb.
This is probably one of the most important things we can do as Dads is to spend time with our kids. They don't need a lot of fancy toys and every new thing that comes out on the market. They need us... they need our time, our attention, our encouragement, our affirmation of them, and our love.
As a pastor, that is one thing that I'm always concerned about in the back of my mind. I don't want to get so focused on ministry and being busy with church stuff or ministering to other people that my own family gets neglected. I think that happens way too often, and its the biggest reason PK's (preacher's kids) grow up resenting their Dad, despising the church, and rebelling against God. That's why I'm like a Nazi when it comes to my calendar; I'm super organized when it comes to my time. I have an average week on my palm with usual activities blocked off to keep me on track. I have Bible study time, exercising time, ministry time, I even have "me time"... but I also have plenty of family time. I just absolutely refuse to get so busy that I do nothing but run around like a chicken with its head cut off being busy in ministry. That would be detrimental to me and to my family.... and ultimately to the church as well.
Being a dad means A LOT of sacrifice... it means doing things you don't particularly enjoy. For sure being a Dad has been the most challenging and the most enlightening thing I have ever experienced... but it has also been the most enjoyable experience as well... and I wouldn't trade it for anything!
Oh yeah... We also enjoy playing video games :)

Hi :-)
You dont like the teletubbies? I thought you did.... ;-)
Wont be to long and he wont like those types of shows any though. So lets look forwards to the Disney days and saturday morning cartoons :-)
Now I know playing the video games together you enjoy.
I'm glad you work hard ... but at the same time spend a good amount of time with us two.
It means a lot to us both.
Love,
Andrea
As a father, my pasttimes with my son will hopefully be of more constructive value than Teletubbies or playing video games. What kind of moron are you 2 raising?
I can almost guarantee that if the day comes that he wants to listen to "bad" music or watch dirty movies, you'll offer the heavy hand. Why not do it when he is rotting his brain with the Teletubbies? What does that offer a developing brain? Absolutely nothing. You should know better.
Being a dad doesn't mean being stupid and giving into every stupid thing your baby wants. Parents should check up on this site now and again to learn how NOT to raise their kids.
A very hateful person named "KOLE" (who had no blog address himself) left the a comment calling my husband a moron for watching Teletubbies and playing video games with our son.
He said that we are rotting his brain. And that we are raising a stupid idiotic child because of this.
Its obvious this person Kole has some serious issues himself. To leave such a nasty comment on somebodies blog.
Now let me just say Kole.
That my husband doesnt sit around day after day watching teletubbies with Caleb.
He doesnt spend hour after hour letting our son fester in front of a TV.
He was using that show and that particular thing Caleb does like to do once and a while as an example.
That sometimes as parents we do have to do things with our children that arent the most enjoyable.
But that we have to sacrafice as parents every now and then.
We dont own a teletubbies dvd or video. Every now and then I go to our local library and rent a dvd from them. Why? Because even us as parents need time to relax. I cannot get ready in the mornings with a toddler holding on to my leg and pulling on my shirt wanting me to hold him.
So if there is a tv show that he can watch that will keep him entertained for 20 minutes. Than I'm all for it.
Yes I know teletubbies isnt going to make my child a doctor or teach him anything fantastic.
But thats why outside of this little 20 minutes show we teach our child.
Caleb is a very bright 19 month old boy. There hasnt been one person yet to tell us they think Caleb is stupid or a moron.
Caleb is always mistaken to be older than he is. Why? Not only because of his height... but because he is very bright and a very social young child.
That DOES not come from a TV show. Okay?
Your comment wont be posted by me. My husband is out of town and if he feels like posting your comment than he can. I just dont see the point on letting you get some sort of satisfaction from any of this.
Just know that you are a very pathetic individual to come on here and insult a beautiful intelligent young child.
And a wonderful Father.
Please do us all a favor and GET A LIFE.
Sweetheart, you don't have to defend me... I appreciate it and I love you, but it's ok.
:)
In that first picture, it's the perfect depiction of the American zombie family. Like sheep being lead to the slaughter...
